Match report vs Beenleigh
Springfield utd 4 Beenliegh 1
Springfield has tasted victory for the first time away from home with an emphatic 4-1 result. For the second time this year Rob underwood scored an early goal with a stunning shot that gave the young Beenliegh keeper no chance. With the lads trying to adjust to a new formation loose passes and tentative marking were allowing the hosts to assert some pressure and probably should have converted some chances. After a promising first 15 minutes I was happy for the half time whistle with Springfield up 1-0. The second half started with Beenliegh pressing close again to a equalizer but some great defending and some Super saves from debutant rob Cooper kept our lead intact. Then out of nothing our striker josh irvine unleashed a 35 m thunderbolt that had to be seen to believe. We now could sense a victory even with 25 minutes to go. The boys were starting to play some very attractive football and beeneliegh were quite clearly getting frustrated as the boys in blue were creating chances with every play. Our chances of victory improved when Josh was brought down in the area. Up stepped strike partner Mitch Nuendorf who expertly slotted the penalty to make the score 3-0. Springfield was now putting on a show against the shell shocked lions and added further polish to the scoreline as Josh Irvine netted his second after a delightful chip over a hapless defender after rounding the keeper. Unfortunately the home team grabbed a late goal to ruin our keepers perfect night. Rob had a terrific first game as he was confident in the air, shut down goal scoring threats and made a stunning double save. His night got better as I awarded him with man of the match making it especially hard to leave him on the bench for next week as our first choice keeper is fit for next week.
There were a lot of terrific performances from 1-17 but special mention must go to Josh irvine who terrorized one unfortunate Beenliegh defender all night and Andy Nutton and Rob Underwood who also had very strong games.
We now sit pretty on the table with 2 wins and two draws and if we play like this next week, I am very confident we will win again in our next game.
